Alumni Q&A

Robert DeAngelis
(MSIA 1985)

Tepper School Alumni Board President
Principal and CEO, The Cartesian Group, LLC.

Q: How did you decide to join the Alumni Board?

A: Over the last 40 years since graduation, I have had the opportunity to remain well connected with the Tepper School, almost as if I never left. I’ve recruited at the school, worked with faculty members on research projects, and participated in panel discussions.

The Tepper School contributed significantly to my professional and personal development. Joining the Alumni Board seemed like a natural next step and offered a way to give back to the school.

Q: What inspires you about our Tepper School alumni?

A: We have an amazing alumni base, with notable accomplishments across a range of industries and disciplines. I am continually inspired by the power of our shared educational experience and the ability to leverage data to solve challenging problems. The Intelligent Future is not just a marketing tagline, rather the combination of data connecting with humanity. It is real and it is what differentiates the Tepper School from other B-schools.

Q: What are you looking forward to in your role as President?

A: One of the distinctive characteristics of the Tepper School is its small size. While offering a unique educational experience, the size also presents a challenge in that there are fewer alumni to support and advocate for our school.

I look forward to working with the Alumni Office to further leverage the affinity that alumni have for the school, deepening awareness as to how we can all further support the school’s mission and make our size an asset, versus a liability.

Q: How can we keep alumni engaged beyond graduation?

A: The intensity of the Tepper School programs and the concurrent focus on interviewing easily overshadows the notion of being “alumni for life.” Participating in class reunions and having active alumni chapters plays an important role in helping students stay engaged beyond graduation.

As the new Alumni Board President, I aspire to find new ways to connect alumni with students even before graduation, such that we have a more personal and seamless introduction to the alumni community. Here’s to forging connections and building The Intelligent Future!
