This fall, Carnegie Mellon’s Dining Services announced the selection of AVI Foodsystems as the food service vendor for the Tepper Quad. This new marketplace will be the first university location for “AVI Pure,” a new sustainable venture, and will feature some of AVI’s exclusive concepts including hand-crafted pastas, made-to-order sandwiches on fresh-baked artisan breads and a locally sourced fruit and vegetable bar, as well as Tazza D’Oro beverages.

The vision takes shape

During the summer, the enclosure of the parking garage literally cemented the full footprint of the building. This new expansion has allowed for significant growth of the undergraduate programs, with a 64 percent increase in class size from the entering class in 2012 to the full size that will enter in the fall of 2018. Their new home will include a dedicated lounge, new modern classrooms, improved collaborative workspaces and increased study space


Very High Standards

Following the arrival of the tower crane this summer, the elevator towers rose all five stories to the building’s high point. Construction costs have remained within the budget, which Senior Associate Dean Mike Trick attributes to “more standardization without ending up with a standard-looking building.”
